Comments are a great way for users of the wiki to make suggestions about the page without changing the content of the page.

Limits on comments

Comments are limited in a few ways, because they are not meant to hold the bulk of your data in the wiki.  Most of your data should be stored in pages, and if any of these limitations pose a problem, you should consider creating pages on the workspace instead.  Here are a few of the limitations:

  • Notice: Only users that appear in the users list of a workspace are able to make comments.  Anonymous users, or users that are simply logged in with a PBworks account and not joined to your space, cannot make any comments on any page.
  • Comments cannot be edited by any user of the workspace.
  • Comments can be made by users with Writer, Editor, or Administrator access on the page only.  If you lock a page, so that only Administrators can edit it, then only Administrators will be able to make comments.
  • Readers on a page cannot make comments on the page, unless the Administrator has unchecked the setting to disable comments by Readers.
  • Comments can only be deleted by users with Editor or Administrator access on the page.
  • Comments are not included in the downloaded ZIP export made in the settings.
  • Comments can contain hyperlinks, however, those links won't be active, just plain text.
  • Comments cannot contain images, plugins, or active links to pages or files.
  • Comments can only contain 2000 characters.

Adding Comments

To add a comment, just type your comment into the comment form and click the "Add Comment" button.

Replying to Comments

If the workspace has nested comments enabled, you'll see a link that allows you to reply to a comment.  Using nested comments is not on by default, and Administrators of workspaces can enable the feature by going to the workspace's settings and setting the comments to nested under the "Customization" setting.

Deleting Comments

Single comment deletion

To delete a single comment, click the delete link inside the comment itself.

You must also click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.  Comment deletions, like page and file deletions, are permanent and cannot be restored.

Deleting all comments on one page

To delete all the comments on a page, click the link to delete all the comments.

You must confirm the deletion by clicking OK in the confirmation box which appears.
